How did you start on your spiritual path?

This is in Response to the Questions and Reflections for October 15, 2008:
I remember that it was when I was three, sitting on a hill with 2 other three year olds and we saw God in the sky! Now, please know that all three of us were PK's, that is "preachers kids", so the notion of God was very familiar to us. I remember feeling awestruck.
At age 5 our whole family attended a Billy Graham crusade meeting in our local town and I tried to get my mom to take me to the front of the room to "be saved", I was so moved but she refused as I was supposed to already be "saved" being a PK, baptized and all. At that time I was pretty sure I was "called" to be a misionary and fought that calling for years, as it didn't seem very fun to me. Also, in those days being a misionary meant "going to Africa to save people" and even then it felt disrespectful to me to try and convince someone to believe something they didn't traditionally believe, although the Africa part was intriguing.
My deeper questing started at age 35 following a horrendous family crisis having to due with our kids and has continued to this day.

Help

the spiritual path takes so many unexpected turns! I love that image you have created here in our minds of three small children looking into the sky for God :) hugs!
Nicole, yes, you are correct, there are many turns and ups and downs on the spiritual path. The day of seeing God is still so clear for me as is the child like wonder.
big hugs back!
i like the imagery too, of looking up and seeing God in the sky. When I was little, God would visit me in my dreams… he looked a lot like my grandfather… :-)
Nishtha,
Yes, the God I saw was an older man with white hair and a beard! Even at the young age, we were firmly imprinted with the idea that God is human and a male :)
Started on spiritual path, as I believe we all do - at Birth into life and all previous lives were the connecting steps
Gaile, yes, a wonderful reminder!
Thanks for the opportunity! I love the whole gaia and connections! It brings reminders, inspirations, contemplation and validations as well as a whole lot more!
I enjoy knowledge and researching. The sudden knowing is awesome also!
